RE: Unable to Execute from a shared drive

Postby MSFT » Wed Dec 06, 2006 5:42 pm

Hello Charles,

Thank you for posting here and thanks for Mark's reply.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to execute any
executable file share from your SBS server when you logon client computer
with domain account. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

1. This seems to be a known issue with IE7's Enhanced Security Settings.
Please try the following steps:

a. Open Control Panel on your Windows 2003 server, went to Add/Remove
Programs->Add/Remove Windows Components

b. Uninstall Internet Explorer Enhanced Security by unchecking the same.

c. Restarted IE 7.

d. Test this issue.

(SOX061116700016)

2. If the issue persists or IE 7 is not install on win 2003 server, please
change the value from (3) to (0) in the following keys on windows 2003
server:

HKLM/Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\1\1806=0x00000000(0)
HKCU/Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\1\1806=0x00000000(0)

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| I have a Small Business Server 2003 which has a shared drive on which I
store
| folders of software, the idea being that I can install software by
executing
| the setup program for the software from any client PC on the domain.
|
| Yesterday, I built a W2003 server to be the terminal services server for
the
| domain. When I log the W2003 server onto the domain as administrator, I
| cannot execute a .bat or a .exe file from the shared drive. I receive an
| error message as follows, "Windows cannot access the specified drive,
path or
| file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
If I
| log onto the server as the local administrator, I can execute files on
the
| shared drive.
|
| It looks to me like a group policy issue but I cannot understand why XP
| client can access the folder but not a W2003 server.
|
| I am looking forward to learning something new from this one! Your
| assistance would be appreciated.
|
| Thanks in advance,
|
| Charles.
