Backup and Restore in SharePoint

Postby chicagotech » Tue Dec 02, 2008 3:08 pm

We are running Office SharePoint server 2007 and would like to do backup. I am trying to do the backup from Central Administration>Operations>Perform Backup. My first try failed with access denied. When I tried the second time, I receive this message: "The backup/restore job failed because there is already another job scheduled. Delete the timer job from the Timer Job Definitions page, and then restart the backup/restore job". When I open Timer Job Definitions page, I don't know which one is the backup job I should delete.

I also read this article Backing Up and Restoring Data - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 68008.aspx, but can't follow the instruction. Is it the different version? How do I do schedule backup?

1. If i followed this article Back up a farm by using built-in tools (Office
SharePoint Server 2007), I receive this message

"Directory \\server\backup.sp does not exist or the SQL Server service
account and the chicagotech\boblin service account do not have
permission to read or write to the backup folder. Specify a different
directory".

My logon account boblni does have rights to \\server\backup.sp because I
can use stsadm (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\12\BIN>stsa
dm -o backup -directory \\server\backup -backupmethod full ) to backup
to \\server\backup.

2. If I back up to d:\test. I receive thi smessage: "The backup/restore job
failed because there is already another job scheduled. Delete the timer job
from the Timer Job Definitions page, and then restart the backup/restore
job".

3. I can use these commands to do backup: C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN>stsa
dm -o backup -directory \\server\backup -backupmethod full

or

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\12\BIN>stsa
dm -o backup -directory d:\test -backupmethod full

But I got this result:

"Completed with 0 warnings.

Completed with 2 errors.

Error: Backup failed for Object 79cd77b6-51c7-4413-b7f7-f9d5ba7b76d1 failed
in e

vent OnBackup. For more information, see the error log located in the backup
dir

ectory.
