Solved: VPN error 800 with Netpoia router

Postby chicagotech » Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:04 pm

Situation: The client setup Windows server as VPN server and the Netopia 3346N V7.4.0R2 is VPN pass through router. Internally, they can establish the VPN. However, they received VPN error 800 when trying to establish the VPN from the Internet.

Troubleshooting: 1. The router IP has been mapped to the VPN server.
2. Setup Pinhole to open port 1723 is invalided in the version firmware.
3. Software hosting doesn’t have VPN option in the version too.
4. This version doesn’t have Server list or port forwarding feature.
5. Based on Netopia IP Maps article, “Static IP maps only work with IP addresses not assigned to the router for Internet access. If your ISP is only routing you a single public IP address, then this document would not be applicable to you. However, you can forward specific ports to designated IP addresses on your LAN via Server List entries”. So the solution is map one of static public IP addresses (no the router IP which is they are mapping) to the VPN server.
