take a long time to open FILES

Postby guest » Thu Apr 09, 2009 9:26 pm

On PC2, the excel documents in the shared folder take a long time to
open. Also, the ProfVet program takes a long time to start and print from
the program the program hangs.

At this point, I suggest we first perform the following tests to check
whether it is a ProfVet program issue/Microsoft Office issue or it is a
network related issue.

1. Copy the Excel documents in the shared folder WetVin to the local drive
of PC2. For example, you can just copy the Excel documents in the shared
folder WetVin to C:\ on PCs.

2. Check whether this issue also occurs on other documents such as Word
documents. You can also copy them to the local drive of PC2 to check the
results.

3. Copy the Accessdatabase in the shared folder WetVin to the local drive
of PC2. On PC2, please try to load the database from the local
Accessdatabase on PC2.

If this issue does not occur when opening the local Excel documents or
Accessdatabase on PC2, this may be a network related issue. Please take
your time to perform the tests above and let me know the results. Thank you
for your time and cooperation.

In addition, this issue can be caused by software conflicts. If so, let's
perform a Clean Boot to troubleshoot the issue.

Clean Boot
=============
Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This
method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program
or service. Please perform the following steps:

1. Click "Start", go to "Run", and type "msconfig" (without the quotation
marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box
and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment.
5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the
"Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when
Windows starts" box and click OK.
6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment.

Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup
programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other
programs. We may still manually run these programs later.

How to return from a Clean Boot state
=============================
1. Click "Start"->"Run", type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) and
press ENTER.
2. On the "General" tab, click "Normal Startup - load all device drivers
and services".
3. Click "OK". Click "Restart" when you are prompted to restart your
computer.

we got some other issues also with the network
at this
location. All errors where related to an old router that started to fail.
When this was changed for a new one, the network speed was back to normal
and everything works as it should :)
