Solved: VPN error 800 on only one computer

Postby chicagotech » Thu Dec 14, 2006 10:40 am

Q: I am getting the error 800: unable to establish VPN connection. I have
always been able to VPN to my workplace and now I cannot. I asked our
network guy about it and he said that I do not show up on the server as
having connected so something wrong on my computer. What can I look
at? What could be my problem?

A: Do a simple test. Can you telnet port 1723?

Q: I cannot telnet port 1723. Also no one else is having this problem, just me.

A: If you are only person have this issue. I would double check the configuration. Can you ping the VPN server?

Q: Ok, I am in business!!!! I had upgraded my Norton Anti-virus a couple
of weeks ago. I had the worm protection and spyware protection turned
on.
When I turned both of them off, I was able to connect. I then turned
them back on and lost my connection. Turned them both back off, so I
know
that is why I kept getting the 800 error.

Thank you so much for trying to help.

Sorry Guys, after posting I found kb937231 which informed me that this is a
known (i.e. MS pork-up) error, and gave me a workaround.

I had to search for 'netsvcs' 'cos the phrase 'help and support' returned
nothing.

Anyway, problem solved.

It worked internally, but i get error 800: unable to establish the vpn
connection from a remote location. Is there any thing I have to do on the
remote location router?
What are the settings I should have on the server end router? Just forwared
port 1723 on the server router pointing to the server?

This is DHCP issue. This lnk may help,

ras error code
Error 797 Error 781 Error 783 Error 800 Error 806 - the VPN connection cannot be completed ..... Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. ...

I get this error on the server side. So I know there is a connection taking
place just no DHCP address.
Where should I look?
