TCP/IP Node Type issues

 

Case 1: When running net view command, you may receive System error 6118 - "System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

 

Case 2: can't ping other computer by host name.

 

Case 3: Networking computers don't show or take long time to show up on My Network Places.

 

Case 4: when clicking on Computers Near Me in My Network Places or workgroup name in Entire Network, the following error message may appear: "Cannot Access 'Computers Near Me' " or "Workgroup is not accessible" errors.

Case 5: When running browstat status, you may receive this message: browsing is NOT active on domain. status: 6118 master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatsus

Cause: the ipconfig /all shows the Node Type is Peer to Peer. Please follow this link to modify the node type to Hybrid.
