VM doesn't have network connection and Microsoft VMBus Network Adapter has yellow exclamation - Resolution with screenshots

Situation: The client has Windows 2003 VM running on Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V. After rebooting both VM and host, the VM lost the network connection. The Microsoft VMBus Network Adapter in The Device Manager shows yellow exclamation.

Resolution: Found this article and fixed this issue by updating the drive.

Here are steps by step details:

1. In the Device Manager, right click on The Microsoft VMBus Network Adapter and click Update Driver.

2. Check Yes in Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software.

3. Check Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).

4. Check Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.

5. in Select Network Adapter, highlight Microsoft Virtual Machines Bus Network Adapter.

6. Click Finish in completing the Hardware Update Wizard.

7. Now, you should have a working Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter.
