Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP

HTTP: Error 12029 A connection with the server could not be established

Symptoms: 1. You can ping any web sites but access them
2. When using Microsoft Network Diagnostics to troubleshoot, you receive this message: "Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP" as shown

3. The Network Diagnostics log shows this message: "HTTP: Error 12029 A connection with the server could not be established".

Possible cause: incorrect proxy server settings or the Internet connection setup to use Proxy without proxy server. To check the Proxy server settings, open the IE>Tools>Options>Connection>LAN Connection. In our example, the Proxy server is enabled and http is using 127.0.0.1 and port 57798. Disabling the Proxy fixes the problem.
