Case Study - "The DSA object cannot be deleted"

 

Situation: The client has one NT4 BDC in their windows 2000 domain. When they try to delete NT BDC from Domain Controllers of Active Directory Users & Computers, they receive "The DSA object cannot be deleted" message.

 

Solutions: 1. Make sure the NT list in the DNS records and we can ping FQDN.

 

2. Use NT 4 Server Manager from the NT to delete the NT BDC.

 

3. Check Active Directory Users & Computers and the NT domain controller has been removed from Domain Controllers and Computres.

 

4. Also use NTDSUTIL to check the domain lists and make sure it is clean.

 

Note: If the NT Server Manager doesn't delete it, you may need to use NTDSUTIL.
