MSSBSSSR module encountered a problem and needed to close

Case 1: After installed SP2 for SBS 2003, we keep receiving this error: “MSSBSSSR module encountered a problem and needed to close”.  We fixed this problem by removing and reinstalling the Monitoring by following this how to: How to remove and install the Monitoring in SBS 2003

Case 2: I have also noticed the following Microsoft error messages appearing when logging onto the server...

"com surrogate encountered a problem and needed to close"

"microsoft.net asembly registration encountered a problem and needed to close"

"mssbsssr module encountered a problem and needed to close"

I uninstalled the .Net 1.1 Framework when I installed .Net 2 Framework. Re-installing .Net 1.1 Framework fixed the problem.

Case 3: From the description, I understand that you encountered the mssbsssr fails
on your SBS server. Based on my research, this application belongs to SBS
monitoring feature. The problem is probably caused because the component
for SBS 2003 monitoring feature is corrupted. Here, I would like to suggest
you manually reinstall the SBS 2003 monitoring components:

Before you perform a reinstall, please let me know the following questions

1. Is there any third-party software installed on the SBS 2003 server? Does
the problem begin to occur just recently or right after the server
installation?

2. Modify a registry for services control to see if the problem can be
resolved. Open regedit program, navigate to the following registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

In the right panel, delete the value ''WaitToKillServiceTimeout'', recreate
this value with String type and then reboot the computer. For the detailed
steps, please refer to the following KB article:
839262 Services may stop abruptly when you shut down or restart a Windows
Small
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=839262

Please also collect the event logs:
a. Click Start and then Run.
b. Type in "msinfo32" without the quotations and click OK.
c. Once System Information is up and running, click File and then Save.
Save the system information to a .nfo file.
d. Open ''Event Viewer'' in ''Administrative Tools''
e. Right-click ''Application'', click ''Save log file as'' to save the
application log. Also save the ''System'' log.
f. Please send these files to me as an attachment to v-chacez@microsoft.com

You can schedule a down time to perform a clean boot on SBS Server: to do so

a. Start-->Run-->msconfig

b. In the "Services" tab, uncheck all non-Microsoft services.

c. In the "Startup" tab, uncheck all startup items.

d. Close the msconfig and reboot the computer.

If the issue still persists, please reinstall the component.
