Can't ping/map home PC using hostname after joining domain Situation: My Vista laptop works fine at home and work. However, I can't
ping or map other home computers using hostname after joining the Vista to
our domain. I can ping or map using IP. Network displays all home networking
computers and I can access them. If I use ping -a IP address, it displays
the correct hostname. If I ping other computer using hostname, it displays
our domain FQDN and public IP, for example, "Pinging vista1.chicagotech.net
[69.89.25.174] ". Resolution: 1. Re-configure DNS to use DNS suffix order. To do that, go to the properties of the connection. Select the properties of IPv4. Select Advanced>DNS. Check "Append these DNS suffix in order. Then add your local and remote DNS information. 2. Change the DNS record in the home network DHCP and point to the local DNS. When using VPN at home to access the domain using WINS or other name resolutions. 3. Use IP to access home network. Post your questions, comments, feedbacks and suggestions Related Topics |
