Symantec Antivirus v8 and Microsoft Update Issues

Symptoms:

1. Blue screen with STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):\System Root\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

2. If you try a couple times, you may be able to run the Windows Safe Mode.

3. When attempting to logon, you may receive profile can't be loaded message.

4. If you can logon, you may receive Application error message.

5. You may also receive "insuffient resources" message.

Causes: The system has Symantec Antivirus v9 or old with Intel Graphics or NVIDIA driver may have this issue after installing Microsoft update.

Resolution: 1. Try "last known good".

2. Try system restore.

3. Remove SAV 9.
