Slow to open a file or browse because of mapping to disconnected drive

Situation: After the client removed a member server from the domain, they got a lot phone calls to complaint slow browsing. For example, when a user tries to browse his department shared folder from Word, it took 1 or 2 minutes to open it.

Troubleshooting: When we open Windows Explorer, we saw the mapping drives of the removed server with red X. If we clicked on it, it take 1 minutes to display disconnected drive error.

Resolution: Disconnect the drive manually, browsing speed came back to normal. We also suggested they to modify the logon script so that it won't map the server drive any more.
