“Cannot access folder because the path is too long or deep”

"File creation error - The semaphore timeout period has expired"

OS or software related case:

1. We got this error “Cannot access folder because the path is too long or deep” when copying a folder to a network drive from XP and Windows 2003. But the Windows 2000, NT and Win 98 don’t have this problem.

2.  If I copy/move files with loads of subdirectories and files I get the "path too deep" error, but if I open the directory and drag and drop this works fine, unless I close the Explorer window of the source directory. If I just leave the copy/move running and close the other windows, after a few minutes I get the error "The specified name is no longer available".

3. Get the "path too deep" error. The only way to copy, it boots Safe Mode with Networking Support.

4. We receive the following error message: “Cannot delete folder - path too Deep Can't access this folder. Path is too long”. When trying to copy files to Server 2000 server and Server 2003 servers from XP machines. I just installed SP2 on my XP laptop.

Resolutions:

1. TcpAckFrequency is a new registry entry in Windows XP and Server 2003 that determines the number of TCP acknowledgments (ACKs) that will be outstanding before the delayed ACK timer is ignored. You may need modify the TcpAckFrequency. Refer to Microsoft Q328890.

2. On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), programs that connect to IP addresses that are in the loopback address range may not work as you expect. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center may fix this issue:
DownloadDownload the Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB884020) package now. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=17D997D2-5034-4BBB-B74D-AD8430A1F7C8&displaylang=en).
